PATENT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS This invention has for its object to provide deep-well drill of simple construction and easily operablein substantially the ordinary way common to devices of this character to effect drilling through all types of geological formations ordinarily oil, gas, or water. 11 the accompanying drawings illustratig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of a pipe lined drill hole in course of being extended to greater depth by means of a drill con-r structed in accordance with this invention.

The drill of this invention comprises a cylindrical head 1 preferably integral with a point element 2, the element 2 tapered and of appreciably smaller diameter at its upper and larger end than said head 1. Between its ends said point element 2 is provided with a series of longitudinal recesses 3 alternating with longitudinal ribs 4 having sharp side edges 5 which partly overhang the recesses 3. The latter are spaced appreciably from the lower extremity of said point element 2 which is flat bottomed.
At the other or upper end ,ofthe head 1, there is provided a shank 6 which is externally threaded to engage in the threaded socket of the cylindrical block 7. The latter and the drill element 1-2, are provided with axial bores 8 and 9, respectively, communicating with each other. The upper end portion of the bore 8 is threaded to receive and en gage the eye-bolt 10 by means of which the block 7 and drill element'12 are suspended from the cable 11 or other elementby means of which said drill cated.
In the block 7 there is provided an inclined bore which communicates at its lower end with the bore 8 ofsaid block and is adapted to be suitably connected at its upper end with a tube or pipe 13.
