ELLEN E. PERKINS, OF BEAVER BAY, MINNESOTA.
A SEXUAL ARMOR.
Specificatioxi of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. '7, 1908.
Application filed June 24.1907. Serial No. 38OA68= To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLEN E. PERKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Bay, in the county of Lake and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sexual Armor; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
It is a deplorable but well known fact that one of the most common causes of insanity,
-imbecility and feeble mindedness, especially in youth,is due to masturbation or sel abuse.
ThlS 1s about equally true of both sexes.
Physicians, and more particularly physi cians, nurses and attendants associated with I insane asylums, have lon found this habit the most difficult of all ba practices to eradicate, because of the incessant attention requiredof them in respect to the'subjects in their care. In fact it has been found ractically impossible to give to any such u ortunate person that constant personal attention which is, under heretofore tried methods of treatment necessaryto accomplish the redemption of such persons from such habits. Therefore, with persons who have carried on such disastrous practices until serious'ailments of the mind have resulted, there has been-but little hope of cure. These are all facts but too well known by persons whose professions have made them familiar with this subject. My profession has made me very familiar with this subject, and the many melancholy human tragedies of this character, which have transpired before my own eyes, have impressed upon me the great necessity of a device which will aid those concerned in the treatment of such cases, in the cure from this disastrous practice,;; and which will at the same time give the person under treatment all necessary personal liberty. This matter of personal iberty of the patient is of very great concern, because in the proper treatment of disorders and afflictions of the mind the greatest personal liberty and the least possible chastisement or confinement is an absolute necessity.
I have provided a simple and ellicient device-which accomplishes the objects above noted, and in the accompanyin drawings have "illustrated the device in the form in which it has been actually used and found highly eflicient for the purposes had in view.
In the drawings like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views. 4
Referring to the drawings :Figure 1 is a view in front elevation showing the device applied to a person. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the arts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarge detail in front elevation, and with some parts broken away, showing the segmental tra downward an backward as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the line cc a of Fig. 3, the tra door of the device being shown in its close osition, by full lines and in its opened position by dotted lines, and Fig. 5 is a transverse verticalsection taken on the line in 1: of Fig. 4. 1
The character a indicates the body of a plerspn to whom the so-called armor is apiec l The numeral 1 indicates a cloth garment made preferably in form much like an armless short le ged bathin suit.
The metallic part of the armor is secured to the crotch portion of the garment 1 and comprises two principal parts, to wit, an inverted arch shaped thin metal crotch plate 2 having a central opening or segmenta 3, and a segmental gate 4, so called, which normally closes said opening or slot ,3,
Said crotch plate 2 at its upturned front and rear extremities is provided with hin ed eX tension plates 5, which'as Well as t e side edges of said arch plate 2 are stitched or otherwise securely attached to the trunk portion of the garment 1. tions of the legs of the garment 1 are preferably covered with heavy leather reinforcements 6, the upper edges of which are securely attached to the sides of the arch plate 2.
The segmental gate 4 at its upturned front end is attached to the front of the arch plate 2, by a hinge 7, and at its upturned rear end is rovided with a key actuated lock 8 having a ock hook 8 that is adapted to enter a l perforation in a hollow head 9 secured on the upturned rear portion of said arch plate2. Preferably the arch plate 2, at the sides of its segmental opening 3, isprovided with depending arallel se mental flanges 10, against w liCll the said gate 4 is seated when closed. The said gate 4 is perforated so that liquid matter may be assed therethrough, With the said door 100 ed in its normal position. At certain times, and for obdoor of the device, turned.
slot
The inner porvious reasons, it becomes necessary to entirely open the passage or slot 3 of the arch plate 2, and when this becomes necessary the said gate 4 must be Unlocked by the proper "by a small padloc- 14, so that it will be absolutely impossible to remove the garment, without first unlocking said adlock. The hinged plate extensions 5, wh' e forming art of the metallic armor, give increased exibility thereto.
Inactual practice I have found that an armor or device of the character above described, when properly made and fitted to a patient, may be worn with very little, if any, discomfort, and that when properly covered by over garments the fact of its application will not be noticeable. It has been found to bean entirely satisfactory device for the purposes had in View.
What I claim is l. A sexual armor, comprising a flexible garment, a rigid arch plate applied in the crotch thereof and having a segmental central slot, a gate for opening and closing said slot, and a lock for normally securing said gate in its closed position, as and for the purposes set forth.
2-. In a sexual armor, a garment having a metallic crotch portion formed with a central rovided with a lock for securing said gate n its closed position, as and for the purposes set forth.
4; In a sexual armor, a flexible garment having a metallic crotch portion formed with a central slot, and having a perforated segmental gate hinged to one end portion thereof and rovided at its other end portion with a lock 'or securing said gate in its closed position, as and for the purposes set forth.
5. The combination with a flexible garment 1., of a metallic arch plate 2 applied to the crotch thereof and havin depending flanges 10 with a central slot 3 etween the same, plate extensions 5 hinged to the front and rear ends of said arch. late and secured to said garment 1, the per orated segmental gate 4 hinged to the front portion of said arch plate and normally engaging said flanges 10 and closing said slot 3, and a lock applied to the rear portion of said gate for securing the same in a closed poses set forth.
In tesimony whereof- I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
