To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXIS MANTELET, fils, of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breast Douche Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

The apparatus forming the subject of. the present invention is devised particularly for applying a breast douche by directing thereon two or preferably three rings of strong jets. The apparatus will direct the jets of one ring approximately at right angles to the chest, as near as possible to the base of the breast, while the jets of the other ring or rings are directed more or less obliquely and converging at a greater or lesser distance so as to impinge upon portions near the extremity or summit of the breast, but without impinging upon the latter.

The apparatus comprises two rings which may be arranged to pivot about a diameter so as to allow of folding or collapsing the apparatus. One of these rings forms the base of the apparatus and is applied upon the chest around the breast of the user. The other ring, which is located a few centimeters from the first, is a circular tube formed with the rings of holes through which the jets of water are to be discharged. This douche ring is supplied by a tube which may be connected to a tap or reservoir, and it is attached to the base ring by a tongue, link or stay adapted to impart a certain rigidity to the apparatus during use. The douche ring may in any case be mounted pivotally so as to enable it to be inclined to a greater or lesser extent according to the direction which it is desired to give to the jets of liquid. This result may be secured by dispensing with the link or stay or by providing it with a hook at one end or other detachable means.

The breast douche can be readily collapsed so that it will occupy less space in a trunk or traveling bag.

The construction and action of the apparatus will be understood from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings, which represent a breast douche made in accordance with the invention.

Fig. 10 illustrates the manner in which the apparatus is used.

This apparatus comprises a metal ring a, preferably hollow for the sake of lightness, and jointed at diametrically opposite points to a loop Z), likewise preferably tubular. The ends of the loop 7) are each formed with a hole for the reception of a small. ear or staple c the limbs of which are passed through the ring a and riveted. In this way a much stronger and more flexible oint is obtained than an ordinary hinge joint.

Between the arms of the loop 6 and at a few centimeters from the ring a is mounted the tubular douche ring (Z formed with three rings of perforations 0 o 0 The first ring of holes 0 are arranged to project jets upon the breast horizontally or approximately in the direction of the arrow 00, Fig.

1, in such manner as to form a circular or cylindrical douche which impinges sharply on the chest in an approximately perpendicular direction. The perforations 0 0 of the other rings are arranged to deliver jets at different inclinations as indicated by the arrows 2 and a, so as to produce streams of truncated cone form, the smaller ends of the truncated cones being more or less close to the extremity or summit of the breast. A complete, vigorous and abundant douche over the whole surface of the breast is thus always obtained, so that the douche may very well be of short duration. This douche therefore gives the very desirable result of shock without undue chill.

The douche ring (Z is mounted between the arms of the loop 5 by means of pivots 8; mis a tongue or link whereby the base ring a is attached to the douche ring rl. The douche ring is stayed in position during use by means of a resilient strip of metal 7' soldered, riveted, or otherwise attached to the loop Z; and formed with a bend or seat 2' to fit the outside of the douche ring (Z and hold the same in place, so that the douche ring (Z and the loop Z) in the position of use form a rigid structure connected at c to the ring a, the link on preventing any pivoting at c. The apparatus may however be made or em ployed without the retaining link or member m, as seen in Fig. 6, and the apparatus can then pivot at 0 so that the douche ring can be inclined as required relatively to the base of the apparatus and be directed so that the jets may strike more directly upon the lower part of the breast, whereas the upper semi-circumference of the rings of jets will strike higher. The link we may also be adapted to be unhooked at one end (see Fig. 9) so as to allow of relative movement of the apparatus when desired. Aless free joint could be obtained by making it as shown in Figs. 7 and 8, where the limbs of the loop 7) have flattened ends pivoted to lugs fixed to the ring a.

The douche ring (l is provided at top with a connection 9 to receive the end of a rub ber tube it which may be connected to a water tap, as seen for example in Fig. 10, or it may be to a reservoir located at a greater or lesser height, according to the desired strength of the jets. The connection 9 has a screw thread p on to which the end mount 9 of the rubber tube is screwed. The apparatus will remain properly expanded notwithstanding the weight of the rubber tube, owing to the stay provided by the link or member m.

The jointing of the rings to the loop I) at c and e, and the end joints of the stay m enable the apparatus to be collapsed into a very flat form as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, so that it occupies little space, which is of great advantage for transport.

The apparatus may be arranged so that the loop Z) shall occupy a vertical position in use. By inclining the loop (and consequently the douche ring fixed thereto by the spring stay to right or left, the breast can be douched more vigorously on the inner or outer side as required.

The apparatus as above described is located inside a tube or bag of waterproofed fabric is shown in dots in Figs. 1 and 10. This may be attached to the base ring a by any suitable means, for example by rubber solution. It is preferred as shown in Fig. 5, to fix to the base of the waterproof bag or tube a channel-shaped ring 1* of metal, celluloid, rubber, or other suitable material, into which the base ring a is inserted for use. In this way the fabric of the bag, and not the metal, will come into contact with the skin. The open end of the bag is is preferably cut on the slope; the water will run off from this bag into the lavatory or other basin or the like.

In operation, as shown in Fig. 10, the apparatus is applied by the user over the breast and held in place. Then when the tap is turned on the-jets impinge upon the breast and the water runs back into the bag is and out through the end thereof. If desired, two apparatus might be grouped together" and have their two coupling pieces 9 connected by a T-tube, the T part carrying the necessary union or coupling piece necessary for connection with the rubber tube or tubes. In this way both breasts may be douched at once.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An apparatus serving particularly for applying a douche to the breast, and comprising a supporting frame and a tubular douche ring mounted therein and provided with a plurality of rings of orifices, one ring of said orifices being adapted to direct jets of liquid approximately perpendicularly to the chest near the base of the breast, another of said rings of orifices being adapted to direct jets of liquid obliquely upon the breast, substantially as described.

An apparatus serving particularly for applying a douche to the breast, and comprising a tubular douche ring formed with a plurality of rings of orifices, one ring of orifices being adapted to direct jets approximately perpendicularly to the chest and another or others of said rings of orifices being adapted to direct jets obliquely upon the breast, a coupling piece on said ring'for connection to a water supply, a frame comprising a looped member and a base ring adapt ed to be applied upon the chest, an impervious container attached to the base ring and adapted to permit the douche water to run 01?, a metal stay attached to the front of the looped member and adapted to support the douche ring in the position of use, a connecting stay between the douche ring and the base ring, or the douche ring being capable of inclination between the limbs of the looped member, the various parts of the apparatus being capable of folding upon each other into a reduced compass when not in use.
